After Lake Balaton, Lake Tisza is the largest lake in Hungary. With its surface area of 127 km², Lake Tisza is a natural wonder. It is located in the Great Hungarian Plain, near the Hortobágy National Park. Thousands of birds can be found in this vast marshy area. The number of storks is also impressive, with dozens of nesting opportunities provided on electricity poles and streetlights in every Hungarian village. 

The beautiful Lake Tisza has varying depths. The shallow, quickly warming water is perfect for swimming, while the deeper water is ideal for water sports. Lake Tisza is definitely worth a visit for those who love the outdoors and nature. Whether you enjoy fishing, boating, hiking, cycling, sunbathing, or swimming, everything is possible here. For children, there is even a real pirate island where they can have all kinds of adventures.

Lake Tisza is about a 30-minute drive from our campsite. However, this depends on what you want to visit around Lake Tisza.

This complex at Lake Tisza was established to gather and showcase the astonishing nature and wildlife of the Tisza Valley and Lake Tisza. It was opened to the public on April 27, 2012. The main building of the Lake Tisza Ecocentre, designed by architect László Kertai, a laureate of the Ybl Award, symbolizes a giant landing bird. This inspiring architectural wonder offers a full-day program with permanent and temporary exhibitions, a conference and event hall, a 3D cinema, the "A Night in the Forest" exhibition featuring reptiles and amphibians in terrariums, the children's playroom "Enchanted Water World," and an observation tower. The panoramic view from the terrace is simply breathtaking, with Lake Tisza in one direction and the Mátra and Bükk Mountains in the other.

A guided tour of Lake Tisza is also available (currently only in Hungarian), and outside, there is a large playground and a petting zoo for children.

At the entrance, you can request an audio guide device (free of charge) to receive information in English, German, Polish, or Hungarian.

The Tisza Lake Ecocentre is located in Poroszló and is about a 30-minute drive from our campsite.
