Gelej
Gelej is a quiet village with around 700 inhabitants. Within walking distance of the campsite, you'll find the village square with a small supermarket, café, town hall, and post office. Here, you'll also find the Reformed Church and a playground for children. Just outside the village, there is a cheese and dairy shop selling locally made products.
Authentic wine cellars
Just outside the village, within walking distance of the campsite, is a small mini-village with wine cellars, Geleji Pincék. In these wine cellars, the wine was stored at a constant temperature and humidity. This allowed the wines to be preserved and aged for longer periods.
Borsodi-Mezőség Tájvédelmi Körzet
Along the village border is the Borsodi-Mezőség Landscape Protection Area. In the area, you can still find some livestock farms. You can enjoy beautiful walks and off-road cycling here, where you will encounter shepherds with herds of cows or sheep. Towards Lake Tisza, there is also a herd of horses. The area is characterized by two parts: the steppe (Puszta) and the floodplains.
Here, you can find various types of birds: buzzard, kestrel, and the sea eagle.
On the Puszta, you can find the ground squirrel, the Hungarian grasshopper mouse, and many species of butterflies. It is definitely worth taking a lovely walk here and enjoying the wide and expansive view.
