Fishing in Hungary can be very good. Many Hungarians fish for relaxation, but also, of course, to then enjoy it with the whole family during an extensive dinner.\n

In Hungary, carp fishing is very popular, but so is fishing for catfish, dwarf catfish, grayling, Coregonus maranoides, sterlet, barbel, sunfish, and the Eastern European variant of zander. Furthermore, you can find all fish species there that are also found in the waters of the Netherlands. \n
\n
At Lake Tisza, a variety of fish species can be found due to the combination of different depths, fast-flowing, and still water. Furthermore, a rich plant and animal world has developed. At Lake Tisza, you have a very good chance of catching a giant catfish. Carp, pike, and perch are also abundantly present. \n
\n
With effect from 1 January 2019, the rules regarding fishing permits in Hungary have changed. To be able to fish, a fishing registration is required. Part of the registration is the application for the Hungarian fishing card, which replaces the old paper fishing card. For this application, you will take a small test. You will be given 20 questions and after this you can apply for the fishing card. Don't forget to bring your Dutch permit\/fishing pass as well. \n

These required permits can be purchased at many tourist information points and in larger cities from MOHOSZ (fishing information offices). Permits are available for both long and short periods, such as a day or a week. This way, you can enjoy relaxing fishing in Hungary. \n
